This Costa Rica Guided Tour begins with a short hike through the park's dry tropical forest before heading underground. As you walk through the forest, you may be able to spot coatis, agoutis, anteaters, and monkeys. Descending into caves, you'll hear the sound of water dripping against rocks and see the twisted, ghost-like formations of hardened calcium all around you. In total, there are 42 caves at Barra Honda, but only one is open to visitors. After an hour of exploring the ins-and-outs of the cave system, you'll emerge above ground and have lunch.
Barra Honda National Park Tours, found in the Tempisque Basin of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, is a natural treasure you don´t want to pass up. Unlike the volcanic stone found throughout northern Costa Rica, the Barra Honda Tours Guanacaste area has a foundation of limestone. Water has cut through the soft rock and formed extensive caves with intricate formations throughout the small mountains of the park. While the caves are the park´s best known feature, it also has a number of well maintained hiking trails.
It is worthwhile to walk through this protected tropical dry forest, as this rare environment is some of the last in the world, and very different from the rain and cloud forests that cover much of Costa Rica. On the Guanacaste Tour Costa Rica you will enjoy a short hike through this very forest, and enter the caves where you will see many stalactites, stalagmites and other calcareous formations of the limestone caverns. The caves are all in relatively good condition because their vertical entrances make them difficult to negotiate.
Luckily, you will be accompanied by two experienced Guanacaste Tours Guides who will carefully navigate you through the caves. You will be given all the proper climbing gear necessary, including helmet, head light, and harness. Get ready to feel like a real spelunker while discovering the mysteries of these beautiful caverns!
Don’t settle for less!!
